'Provide care for shelterless children'

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Abdul Jalil yesterday called upon the affluent section of the society to come forward to provide care for shelterless children so that they can enjoy their right to live as a human being.

He made the call at a seminar on the 'Rehabilitation programme for shelterless children' organised by Bangabandhu Shishu Kalyan Kendro in the city.

Jalil stressed the need for more government efforts to resolve the problems facing the children.

He mentioned that Bangabandhu Shishu Kalyan Kendro has been working for the welfare of the shelterless children despite much limitations.

Dr Shamima Sultana, president of the UK branch of Bangabandhu Shishu Kalyan Kendro, presented a keynote paper at the seminar.

She called for elimination of domestic violence, proper upbringing and identification of shelterless children.

AK Azad Chowdhury, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, and Shagufta Yasmin, former MP, also spoke at the seminar.
