Bus owners begin strike in Rajshahi
The bus owners stopped plying of buses on Tuesday evening and later called for the strike causing suffering to hundreds of passengers.
They said that the strike would continue until the government stopped movement of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) buses that were leased to private organisations.
They called the strike when police had arrested Chapainawa-bganj Motor Sramik Union Assistant General Secretary Afsar Ali for damaging a BRTC bus on Monday. Police also took two Rajshahi Motor Sramik leaders to Boalia thana on Tuesday for creating chaos over plying of BRTC buses.
Rajshahi Bus Owners' Associa-tion General Secretary Shahidur Rashid Montu told the journalists that the government last year signed an agreement with bus owners here not to give BRTC buses on lease. "If anyone want to take BRTC buses on lease, has to follow prescribed guidelines of the Bus Owners' Association", Montu said.
