JCD workers vandalise RU offices
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) workers vandalised the offices of the director, instructor and other staffs of the Teacher and Student Cultural Centre of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday as their candidates were not selected for admission under cultural activists' quota.
JCD leader Sazadur Rahman alias Sachhu along with other activists -- Al Amin Rassel, Shafin Ahmad and Shovon -- led the attack, sources said.
The group stormed into the offices and damaged furniture, musical instruments and other valuables. They also assaulted some staffs during the rampage and forced them out of their rooms.
Sources said the loss was estimated at over Tk one lakh.
JCD sources said many students aligned to Islami Chhatra Shibir and the teachers' candidates were enrolled under the quota but only the candidates nominated by JCD were refused.
Centre Director Prof. Sadekul Islam, however, said the selection process was fair. Those who were illegally lobbying to get their candidates enrolled launched the attack, he added.
