Jica assures support for dev programmes

A formal Equipment Handover Ceremony 2004 by Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) to Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) was held in the city yesterday, says a press release.

The ceremony was organised to commemorate the friendship and cooperation between the two organisations.

Out-going Resident Representative of Jica, Takashi Sakamoto and the newly appointed Resident Representative Arai Akio were present.

Arai Akio said, the Rural Development Engineering Centre Project (RDEC) has turned out to be a successful project. He said, the project has made a great contribution towards the capacity building of LGED, which in turn augment rural development and poverty alleviation programmes here. He assured of further support and cooperation for future development programmes.

Takashi Sakamoto and LGED chief engineer Md Shahidul Hassan also spoke.

Earlier, Arai Akio handed over a number of technical equipment to Shahidul Hassan.
