Agitated locals and attendants of patients confined the director of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in his chamber for three hours in protest against the death of a child due to alleged absence of doctors and insincerity of nurses on duty.

Sources said the victim Mahbul, 8, son of one Ansar Ali of Haragachh Dewantari under Kaunia upazila, was brought to the hospital in a critical condition at 11:55am.

Emergency department sent the child to Ward No 8 where he breathed his last at about 1:00pm without any treatment.

Ansar Ali, along with the local people, went to the chamber of the director and confined him there demanding action against the doctors and nurses at the ward.

The agitated people, however, freed the director after his assurance that punitive action would be taken against the on duty doctors and nurses.
