Indo-Pak drug control talks begins tomorrow

ANI, Islamabad
Pakistan and India will hold talks here next week on checking drug trafficking and smuggling across the border, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan said Saturday.

Pakistan Narcotics Control secretary Khalid Latif and Director General Narcotics Control Bureau of India MK Singh will represent their respective countries at the meeting of the Committee on Drug Trafficking and Smuggling in the talks slated to take place on June 15-16, Khan reportely said.

Khan also announced that secretary-level talks between the two sides on water and power would be held on June 21-22 in New Delhi to discuss Pakistan's concerns on the Baglihar hydroelectric project.

He said Pakistan delegation will be led by secretary water and power and will include Pakistan commissioner for Indus water and other senior officials.

"Pakistan attaches great importance to the amicable resolution of the Baglihar issue," The News quoted the spokesman as saying.

Khan further said that foreign secretary-level talks should discuss issues of Kashmir and peace and security, as they form the most important part of the eight-point agenda. "There is no hierarchy, but these are pressing issues," he said.

Reacting to Indian External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh's remarks on change of borders, he said it was advisable not to give statements, which tend to create misunderstandings.
