NDI analyses Munshiganj voter turnout

The National Democratic Institute (NDI), a non-governmental organisation working to strengthen democracy worldwide, has released a report on voter turnout in recent Munshiganj-1 by-election.

The NDI analysis show that the turnout of voters was 46.85 percent, down from 52.1 percent in the last by-election held in 2002.

However, only four polling centres had turnouts above 60 percent. These centres are Majidpur Dayahata KC Institute, Phakirpara GP School, Kolapara High School and North Kolapara GP School.

The winning party, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB), got 71.42 percent votes while the ruling BNP received 28.36 percent votes.

"The Munshiganj polling centre election returns reveal only minor concerns," said Dr Owen Lippert, resident director of NDI in Bangladesh.

The NDI will also analyse the data of upcoming Dhaka-10 by-election, said a press release on Wednesday.
