Ctg BNP hails budget, AL terms it 'anti-people'

The ruling BNP and its front organisations held rallies and took out processions in the port city yesterday hailing the national budget for 2004-2005 while the opposition Awami League rejected the budget terming it 'anti-people'.

Terming the new budget 'pro-people', the BNP leaders said it would open a new horizon in the development of rural infrastructure.

The budget would help develop rural areas and boost economic growth, they said at a rally at the city BNP office.

City BNP General Secretary Dostigar Chowdhury, Shamsul Alam, Begum Rozi Kabir and Abdus Satter spoke at the rally. The rally was followed by a huge procession.

The Awami League also took out a huge procession in the evening to protest the budget.

Later at a rally, the AL leaders termed the budget 'anti-people' and rejected it.

Chittagong City AL General Secretary and Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Moslemuddin Ahmad and MA Salam spoke at the rally.
