Yet another schoolboy abducted in Kushtia
Family sources said two abductors in a motorcycle picked up Pappu, son of Rezaul Karim of Kuripol in Mirpur upazila and student of Mirpur Kindergarten and High School, when he was returning home from school at around 2:00pm.
However, Rezaul declined to inform police, as the captors threatened him with his son's death if he did so.
As many as 73 people, including 25 students, have been abducted in the district in the last five months. Police could rescue only four, while nine including three schoolboys were killed, seven are still missing and the rest bought their freedom.
Four incidences of abduction occurred this month causing panic among the parents and guardians of students. Many have abstained from sending their children to schools, while some are accompanying them on to school and back home.
Police have beefed up security measures and patrols during school hours but with little success.
Meanwhile, an alleged criminal Abu Hasan, 30, son of late Haydar Ali, has been killed in Haripur on Wednesday night.
Police recovered his body from Garai Char yesterday and said Hasan was killed over long rivalry between two criminal groups -- town group and Haripur group.
