Attack on writer Anu Muhammad condemned
Dhaka University Teachers' Association (Duta) President Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique and General Secretary Prof M Akhtaruzzaman have demanded punishment to the culprits responsible for the attack.
In a statement, they said the entire nation is living in a panicky situation under the present rule and the country has become a sanctuary of extremists and criminals.
President of Workers Party Rashed Khan Menon and General Secretary Bimal Biswas have said the fundamentalist forces have carried out the attack.
In a statement, they also demanded immediate arrest and punishment to the criminals.
Five left parties have blamed the ruling alliance for the attack on Dr Anu and said they will hold a rally at Muktangon this afternoon to protest the attack.
Other organisations that condemned the attack included Ain O Salish Kendra, Jatiya Ainjibi Forum, National Democratic Front, Bangladesh Lekhok Shibir and United Peoples Democratic Front.
JU Correspondent adds: Protesting the attack on Anu Muhammad, different student and cultural organisations of the university brought out several processions and held rallies on the campus yesterday.
The organisations were Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote, Jahangirnagar Theatre, Jahangirnagar Students Film Society, Bangladesh Manobadhikar Sangbadik Forum, Dhwani, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, Bangladesh Chhatra Union and Uttaran.

CU Correspondent adds: Chittagong University Teachers' Association (Cuta) has also condemned the attack on Dr Anu Muhammad.
In a statement, the Cuta said the criminals are now targeting the members of the teaching community to stop their voice.
