Third National Debate Festival begins

The Third National Debate Festival-2004 began at Teachers and Students Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University (DU) yesterday.

The three-day debate was organised by the DU Debating Society. Fisheries and Livestock Minister Abdullah Al Noman inaugurated the debate festival. Noman said regular debate competition at school, college and university levels would help our new generation develop as capable leaders in the days to come.

Vice-chancellor Professor S M A Faiz, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr A F M Yousuf and chairman of the festival organising committee Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury, also addressed the inaugural session.

Noman said it would be possible to create an able and rationalistic leadership in the society through organising debate competition.

Nearly 1,500 students of various schools, colleges and universities across the country have been taking part in the debate festival.

Besides, presentation of different models of debate, seminar, reading, talk show, video clippings, film show and cultural functions are also being arranged on the occasion.
