Review petition of promotee police officials rejected
Following the verdict, the claim of seniority of promotee officers over BCS Cadre (Police) officers has become null and void.
The government in 1998 promoted some departmental officials as assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) with retrospective effect from 1991.
Later, they were elevated to Additional SPs. And in 2003, 13 promotee officials were promoted to the rank of SP, raising the hackles of cadre officers.
The aggrieved BCS police officers of 1991 and 1995 batches then lodged a case with the administrative tribunal that declared the seniority to the promotee officials illegal.
The tribunal also said the promotion to the departmental officials on the basis of seniority could not be effective.
The departmental officials went to the appellate tribunal, but their plea was turned down.
Later, they went to the High Court and the Appellate Division of the SC but again their petition was dismissed.
