Captors kill boss over sharing ransom

Abductors killed their chief over sharing of ransom realised from a businessman at Narayankandi marsh of Harinakundu upazila in Jhenidah in the early hours of yesterday.

Jhenidah police said they recovered the body of Salim Uddin, 40, a gang leader of Chuadanga, yesterday morning.

Chuadanga police said Salim, son of Fayez Uddin of Ghosbila in Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga, was accused of criminal offences, including murders, abduction and robbery, in several cases filed with different police stations in the district.

Sources said a gang led by Salim abducted Abdul Majid, 35, son of Pachu Biswas of Jamjamipur in Alamdanga, on Monday and demanded Tk 1 lakh for his release.

Majid's family, however, bought his release for Tk 50,000 after negotiation on Wednesday night.

Police suspect angry captors killed their boss at around 3:00am, as he demanded the lion's share.

Police sent the body to Jhenidah General Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, another trader Dudu Pramanik, 30, son of Subal Pramanik, abducted the same day from Madhupur village is still missing. His captors have demanded Tk 50,000 for his release.
