Five remanded in Satkhira
Police produced arrestees Debandranath Biswas, 45, of village Putiakhali, Prakash Chandra Sarkar,25, of village Madra, Sabuj Kumar Mondal,18, of Tikarampur and Selim, 18, of village Shuktia in Tala upazila and Palash Kumar,22, of Balianpur village in Assauni upazila before a magistrate's court with a prayer for a 10-day remand each.
After hearing both the sides, Magistrate Maniruzzaman granted them five-day's remand each for interrogation.
The prosecution story in brief is that a gang of assailants threw bombs on ABM Altaf Hossain, Tala thana unit President of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and former upazila chairman, and Habibul, 22, a local carpenter. They hurled bombs on Altaf as he came out of the local BNP office at Patkeghata Bazar at 8:55pm on May 4. Habibul died on the spot while Altaf died on way to Satkhira Hospital.
Abdur Rahman, Tala thana unit president of the Jatiyatabadi Tarun Dal, filed a case with Tala thana accusing Debendra Nath Biswas and Prakash Sarkar and some unidentified persons as the victim's wife, son and daughter refused to file it.
The complainant also mentioned the names of Satkhira district Krishak League President Biswajit Sadhu and Jubo League leader Kazi Hillol in the case, police sources said.
