2 die, 3 hurt in city road crashes

A truck helper was killed and three others injured as an inter-city train rammed a rail line-stuck truck at Kurmitola, a passenger bus ran over a rickshaw-puller at Sabujbagh while a construction worker slipped and died at Motijheel yesterday.

The sand-laden truck (Kustia Ta 05- 0085) jolted to a halt near Navy Headquarters when it was crossing the rail line at 1:05am, sources said.

On its way to Kamlapur Railway Station, inter-city train 736 Agnibeena pierced through the truck, which was thrown about hundred yards away in six crushed pieces.

The unidentified truck helper of 35, clad in check lungi and full-sleeve printed shirt, died on the spot and three labourers on board were badly injured. The driver, however, managed his way out and fled the scene, sources added.

Railway police recovered the helper's body yesterday morning and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

A passenger bus knocked down Abbas Ali, 50, at 9:00am when he was passing Bishwa Road on his rickshaw near Sabujbagh Buddhist temple.

A badly injured Abbas was rushed to the DMCH where doctors declared him dead.

In another incident at Motijheel, a construction worker died after he slipped off a rope while painting a building.

Hanging from a rope, Siddique, 18, was painting the wall of a house at Motijheel AGB Colony at about 9:00am when he slipped down from third floor height.
