Newsman killed in road mishap

Syed Sajjadur Rahman, editor of a fortnightly magazine, was killed in a road accident at Mohammadpur in the city yesterday.

A speeding people carrier, Druti, knocked him down when he was crossing a road 200 yards from Mohammadpur Police Station at around 12:30pm. Rahman, 50, was the editor of the Procharpatra.

He was rushed to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at around 1:40pm.

Rahman went to the police station to collect some information but met with the tragic accident when he tried to cross the road to go to his home at Jafrabad Poolpar in Mohammadpur, police said.

Police seized the vehicle but the driver fled away.
