'Ensure social security for working women'

Karmajibi Nari, an organisation for the working women, celebrated its 12th founding anniversary in the city yesterday with a call to ensure social security for the working women.

Leaders of different political parties, representatives from professional bodies, human right activists and trade union leaders attended a conference organised on the occasion at Paltan Maidan in the city.

The speakers called for protecting the rights of women, saying that their contribution to the economy is no less than their male counterparts.

They also called on the political parties to change their attitude towards women and remove all barriers on the way to empowerment of women.

President of Workers Party of Bangladesh Rashed Khan Menon, President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Hasanul Haq Inu, President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Hena Das, Sultana Kamal, economist Dr Kholiquzzaman Ahmed, human rights activist Hamida Hossain and Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad leader Shafiqur Rahman Mazumder spoke at the conference.
