Concern over move to change name of Sufia Kamal Library

"We have come to know that the prime minister has approved a proposal by the cultural affairs ministry to change the name of the library," said parishad President Hena Das and General Secretary (acting) Dr. Maleka Banu in a statement.

They said the Central Public Library was named after poet Sufia Kamal as a recognition of her contributions to different national movements and literary works.

They also expressed surprise over the removal of the nameplate of poet Sufia Kamal from the ground floor auditorium of the National Museum.

The parishad leaders termed the move as disappointing and urged the government to refraining from doing this.

They called for inclusion of the biography of poet Sufia Kamal in text book curriculum so that the future generation could learn about her contribution.
