Declare Mawa site for Padma bridge
The Movement Steering Committee to Implement Padma Bridge at Mawa yesterday demanded that the government declare Mawa the site for construction of Padma bridge along with rail tracks by today.
It also threatened to announce a greater movement on March 12 if the demand goes unheeded.
Five crore people of 21 southwestern districts will benefit if the Padma bridge is built at Mawa point on the basis of a study report of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), said committee Secretary General Ziaul Kabir Dulu at a press conference in the city.
Meanwhile, another organisation styled as Mawa-A- Padma Setu Bastobayan Committee formed a human chain in front of the Eidgah Maidan in the city yesterday demanding construction of Padma bridge at Mawa point.
It also submitted memoranda to the communication minister and the prime minister to press home its demand.
