Unesco book exhibition begins
National Association of Unesco clubs in Bangladesh and Bangladesh National Commission for Unesco jointly organised the exhibition.
Post and Telecommunication Minister Barrister Aminul Hoque inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest. Aminul Hoque said the recognition of Ekushey February as International Mother Language Day has brought immense honour for the country.
" Mother language is the best way to acquire knowledge in higher education," he said adding that foreign language must be practised along with mother language with a view to keeping ourselves up to date with the knowledge.
Education Secretary Khandaker Shahidul Islam,Secretary of the Bangladesh National Commission for Unesco Syed Jaglul Pasha and Professor Masuda Rashid Chowdhury of Dhaka University also spoke.
Presided over by the National Association of the UNESCO Clubs President in Bangladesh, Gias Kamal Chowdhury, the meeting was also addressed by Unesco Dhaka office programme specialist Ichiro Miazaoa and Mahbub Uddin Chowdhury.
Different publication materials, books, magazines and posters published by the Unesco are being displayed in the exhibition. The exhibition will remain open from 11am to 6pm today.
