One to die for killing wife

Mohammad Shamsul Haq, judge of the 7th Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court, gave the verdict at a crowded courtroom in presence of the convict Tofajjal Hossain.

The convict can appeal to the High Court against the judgement within 7 days.

Earlier, the court recorded statement of 10 out of 18 prosecution witnesses in the case.

The prosecution story in brief is that Tofajjal killed his wife Meherjan at their rented house at Bhagalpur under Savar thana in Dhaka district following a family feud on January 31, 1998.

Later, landlord Abdul Matin Khokan filed a murder case with Savar thana accusing Tofajjal the following day.

The investigation officer of the case pressed charges against Tofajjal on July 30, 1999 and the court framed charges against him on July 31 last year.
