Chittagong second most vulnerable to Aids

Chittagong is the second most vulnerable to onslaught of Aids after Sylhet in the country, said the speakers at a discussion here yesterday.

They said the growing number of AIDS patients has triggered an alarming situation here.

The discussion, organised by a NGO Ashar Alo Society (AAS), was held at a local hotel with Prof Dr A Q M Sirajul Islam,ÊÊformer head of the skin diseases department ofÊ Chittagong Medical College Hospital, in the chair.

Director of Health for Chittagong division Mir Jalal Uddin attended the discussion as chief guest.

Earlier, the project-in-charge of AAS Nazma Begum delivered her address of welcome.

She disclosed that so far 40 AIDS patients have come under its treatment in Chittagong.

Former presidents of Chittagong Union of Journalists Kazi Jafrul Islam and M Nasirul Huq, Prof Dr Sultanul Alam, Dr Nur Mohammad and Dr Didaruzzaman also spoke.
