AL in tie-up talks with left parties
"The plan is to launch a united movement against the 'misrule' of the present four-party alliance government and to oust it," said AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil. "We will also take part in the next general elections jointly and form a national government with the alliance members," he added.
The AL has already reached an understanding with the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), led by Hasanul Haq Inu, and informal talks with other like-minded parties are being held, Jalil said.
The AL insiders said the party leaders will sit with prospective partners very soon to finalise the terms and conditions for forming an alliance.
Besides, the AL and its front organisations are trying to win the support of all anti-government elements.
The left-leaning parties, which were earlier pursuing an 'independent line' on the issue of movement against the government, have changed their stance and responded positively to the latest invitation of the AL.
Jalil recently called for 'political unity' among the pro-liberation and democratic forces.
On Sunday, the CPB leaders put forward six conditions for entering an alliance with the AL, which accepted them in principle.
The AL and JSD (Inu) leaders on Tuesday also reached an understanding on "national government" for overcoming the current ' political and economic crisis'.
