BCL men leave JU campus under JCD threat

Activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit are leaving the campus in the face of threat of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists.

At least six activists of the BCL, the student front of the main opposition party Bangladesh Awami League, were assaulted and thrown out of their halls yesterday by the adherents of the ruling BNP's student front JCD.

Sadat, a student of philosophy department, was assaulted at around 12:00pm at the new Arts Faculty building yesterday. Russell, a student of English department, was attacked in front of central cafeteria at 1:00pm by a group of the JCD cadres allegedly led by Hasan of history department. JCD cadres asked them to leave the campus.

JCD activists ousted Bappi of drama & dramatics department, Johnny of international relations department and Rupom of history department from their room of Sahid Salam Barkat hall at around 2:00am yesterday.

Some BCL activists were also ousted from Meer Musharraf hall yesterday, sources said.

"The JCD activists are ousting our activists and it is not possible for them to stay on the campus," said Jebin, president of the BCL's JU unit.

Parvez Mallick, president of the JCD of JU unit, refuted the allegations.
