Sylhet Jubo League secy, 13 others sent to jail
A magistrate's court rejected the bail prayer of Azadur, also a ward commissioner of the city corporation, when he along with the others arrested was produced before the court.
The others however did not seek bail.
Azadur's elder brother Shahidur Rahman, picked up on Tuesday night, was released later.
Sylhet Kotwali police filed two cases against the 14 arrested in connection with vandalism at the triennial conference of Sylhet district unit of Awami Jubo League conference held at a community centre in the city. Eight of them have charges under the Arms Act and the others face charges of vandalism.
Meanwhile, over 100 Jubo League activists brought out a procession and held a rally in the city yesterday to protest the expulsion of outgoing district unit convenor Nazrul Islam.
Nine activists injured in clashes and exchange of gunshots at the conference on Tuesday night were admitted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Some of those arrested are accused in several murder cases, police said.
The conference was also attended by the president and and general secretary of the Jubo League and some central and district unit leaders of the Awami League.
Outgoing joint convenor of district Juba League Jagadish Das, also a ward commissioner of the city corporation, was elected president of the unit.
