The days of the BNP-Jamaat government have been numbered as the countrymen have already rejected them for misrule, crimes and corruption, Leader of the Opposition and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina said yesterday.

"The day is not far off when the BNP-Jammat government will be toppled by the people," she said at the inaugural session of the council of Krishak League in the city.

She called on the party workers to make the people aware of the failures and misdeeds of the government. "At the same time, tell the people about development programmes of the previous AL government."

Hasina accused the prime minister and the finance minister of working for the interest of a neighbouring country by closing down the jute mills.

"At least nine new jute mills were set up in India recently, whereas our government is shutting down the jute mills one after another, rendering thousands of workers jobless," she said.

The previous AL government took various development projects in agriculture sector for the welfare of the farmers, Hasina said, adding that but the present government is harassing the flood-affected poor farmers by filing certificate cases against them.

Hasina called on the government to waive loans to the farmers.

She said the government has miserably failed to ensure security of the people and to check price hike of essentials. So, it has no right to remain in power any longer, she observed.

Hasina said the government has indulged in 'vindictive politics' to eliminate the AL and its front organisations soon after taking the office and the persecution is increasing day by day.
