Certificate cases against poor farmers

Hasina blames govt

UNB, Dhaka
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Sheikh Hasina yesterday blamed the government for filing certificate cases against the poor farmers and attaching their property. "When public life has already plunged into miseries due to the government's failure, corruption and price hike of essentials, the devastating flood has further aggravated their sufferings... but the government has remained indifferent," she said.

Sheikh Hasina made the remarks to spontaneous wayside crowds at Savar, Nayarhat, Aricha, Doulatdia, Rajbari, Faridpur and Bhanga while she was travelling from Dhaka to Tungipara.

She said because of the government's wrong policies, cost of living rose while people's income did not increase.

Hasina said during her time in government, prices of essentials were stable and the country had attained food self-sufficiency despite the natural calamities.

Expressing her concern over a sharp deterioration of law and order, the Awami League president said the entire country had turned into a safe haven for criminals under the rule of the alliance government.

She said this government has not only failed to protect life and property of the people but also failed to give minimum guarantee to their livelihood.

"This situation can not go on for long... this corrupt and failed government has no right to stay in power," Hasina said.

The opposition leader asked people to be united and launch a movement to free the nation from the hands of the BNP-Jamaat regime.
