Police also charged baton on BCL processions at Bangabandhu Avenue and Russel Square leaving at least 20 workers and AL first Joint Secretary Obaidul Kader wounded.

BCL also brought out a precession on the Dhaka University campus and held a rally in front of the Central Public Library near Shahbagh.

Addressing the rally, BCL leaders protested the police attack on their workers.

Presided over by the BCL DU unit president, the rally was addressed by Ashraful Azim Rubon, Marufa Akhter Popy, Baloram Podder.

The academic activities of the university remained suspended while administrative activities held partially. All scheduled examinations were postponed earlier.

In a joint statement, BCL President Liakat Shikder and General Secretary Nazrul Islam Babu condemned the police attack on BCL workers across the country and demanded immediate release of all BCL workers arrested during the hartal.

They said when the people were observing the hartal peacefully, the present BNP-Jamaat government directed the police to attack on BCL workers.
