Altaf senses AL plot for anarchy

Home Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury yesterday said the Bogra ammunition haul makes him sense an Awami League conspiracy to push the nation to anarchy.

"Who are involved in such destructive activities to endanger the country's sovereignty and independence? How and from where did the bullets and explosives enter the country?" the home minister asked in a written statement to parliament.

Altaf said after the ammunition, the firearms would also be recovered. Those involved in the crime would also be nabbed, he asserted.

Later, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Abdul Hamid during a press briefing criticised the home minister's statement and said the government planted the bullets and explosives to arrest and harass Awami League leaders and activists across the country.

At the briefing at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Abdul Hamid said the government is in possession of the firearms.

The home minister also had said the recovery is not a small event. "People want to know where they want to lead the country," he said.
