Hired goons killed JCD leader, cop probe says
But law enforcers are yet to arrest the killers of Sohel, who was shot dead Saturday noon in Paikpara over an apparent rivalry.
Sohel, coming back home from South Korea, secured the position of JCD city (north) unit assistant organising secretary and came into conflict with other party leaders after he was handpicked for the Mirpur thana JCD unit president.
Locals said his rivalry got a sharp edge after he was given several construction permits for Mirpur. Three days before his death, Sohel slapped Jobber, a contractor, they said.
Sohel sought protection from police, but his request went unheeded, complained family members.
His father Ali Mia Talukder filed a case with the Mirpur Police Station on Saturday night, mentioning only that some unidentified men killed his son.
Siraj Biswas, a rickshaw puller, also bullet-injured in Saturday's shootout, is under treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
