The main opposition Awami League (AL) did not join the Jatiya Sangsad session, which saw tabling of the 2003-04 budget yesterday.

After AL President Sheikh Hasina returns from London, a meeting of the AL Parliamentary Party will be convened on June 15 to decide whether or not to join the rest of the sittings, AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil told The Daily Star last night. Hasina is scheduled to arrive home tomorrow morning after a month-long visit to France, the US and the UK.

Jalil criticised the proposed budget, saying it would help the rich to get richer and the poor poorer. "We will thoroughly review the proposed budget and announce programmes in public interests," he said.
