Former Laxmipur, Sandwip BCL leaders killed

Abdus Shahid, also a first class contractor and son of Laxmipur poura commissioner Sujayetullah, went missing since Wednesday. Police recovered his body from room 124 of Unique Hotel in town and his motorbike from a nearby petrol pump at about 11:00pm on Thursday.

Police suspect Shahid was strangled and arrested three people in this connection yesterday. They are acting general secretary of district Awami League and hotel owner ANM Fazlul Karim, hotel manager Habibullah Zahir and a boarder of the hotel, Syed Al Amin Mesbah.

Police launched a vigorous search operation after the victim's wife filed a general diary with Sadar thana as Shahid did not return till Thursday morning.

Meantime, a local leader of the BCL was stabbed to death at Kuchiabari village in Sandwip upazila Thursday night.

Police said the killers also gouged out the eyes and severed the ears of Saiful Islam, general secretary of Sandwip Mostafizur Rahman Degree College and younger brother of the thana BCL general secretary Kamrul Islam. The body of Saiful, last seen in his village bazar Thursday evening, was recovered yesterday morning from a pond adjacent to his house. The body bore marks of stab injuries.
