AL dares govt to snap polls

Main opposition Awami League (AL) yesterday challenged the ruling BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami coalition to midterm polls and demanded its immediate exit.

People would force the present 'autocratic and corrupt' regime to step down through a tough movement if they do not quit immediately, the AL leaders said.

They called upon their workers to strengthen the party to unseat the government.

The BNP-Jamaat regime is inviting its own fall through its misrule and misdeeds, and there is no alternative to movement to free people from the clutches of alliance regime, the AL leaders observed.

The leaders were addressing a rally in front of party's central office at the Bangabandhu Avenue, which was organised by the AL city unit to protest 'disgraceful' comments on Sheikh Hasina by cabinet ministers and BNP leaders.

They said people would topple the government very soon, as they are fed up with the government's nearly 19-month rule which has been marked by violence, murder, rape, corruption and price hike of essentials.

Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina censured the 'anti-people and anti-country' activities of the government at home and abroad, they said, maintaining Hasina never said anything against the country's interest.

The government must realise that opposition's criticism of ruling party activities is a part of democracy, they said.
