Universities can resume in-person classes from Oct 15 after all students, teachers vaccinated

Universities can reopen from October 15 after vaccinating all their students and teachers.

"We have decided that all universities can resume academic activities from October 15. University authorities will have to complete vaccination of all students and teachers by September 15," University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah told The Daily Star this noon. 

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossen, Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury, top officials of Secondary and Higher Education Division, Technical and Madrasah Education Division, chairman and members of University Grants Commission attended a meeting in this regard. Education Minister Dipu Moni presided over the virtual meeting.

Chairman of the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19, Vice Chancellors of public universities, top officials of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Directorate of Primary Education, and education board chairmen were also present.

All educational institutions were closed on March 17 last year to contain the spread of Covid-19. The closure -- recently extended till August 31 -- has led to cancellation of exams and left academic calendars in disarray.
