Human chain demands reopening educational institutions from September
A human chain at Jatiya Press Club demanded reopening all educational institutions from September.
Students-Teachers-Guardian forum organised the programme today and also demanded immediate vaccination for all students and teachers.
The government declared to reopen in-person classes of universities from October 15 after ensuring vaccines for every student, which is not possible as they do not have enough vaccines, said speakers at the programme.
They alleged that the authorities are scared of any anti-government movement and it is the only reason behind not reopening the institutions.
Selim Bhuiyan, convener of the forum said, "Government has no intentions of reopening schools-colleges. If they wanted to reopen, the vaccination programme for students would already be completed.
"The forum will go for a massive movement if the government fails to reopen educational institutions in September," Selim added.
Mahmudur Rahman Manna, convener of Nagorik Oikya, said, "The government is talking about bringing crores of vaccines, but in reality, only four percent of the total population have been vaccinated".
"Only 37 lakh vaccines are needed for students which the government could easily manage. But they didn't want to reopen the educational institutes as they fear anti-government movement," he said.
BNP Vice-Chairman Shaukat Mahmood, former DUCSU VP Khairul Kabir Khokon, Joint Secretary Moazzem Hossain Alal also spoke at the programme, among others.
