Govt will reopen educational institutions if Covid-19 infection rate falls further: Dipu Moni
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said government will reopen educational institutions soon if the Covid-19 infection rate falls further.
"We will be able to reopen educational institutions soon if the infection rate of Covid-19 continues to fall," she said while addressing a discussion marking the death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Awami League's sub-committee on cultural affairs arranged the programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
It is good news that Covid-19 infection rate in Bangladesh is gradually decreasing, she said adding that the reopening of educational institutions will take place in phases.
"Because the number of students in our classroom is more than the total population of many countries in the world, it is important to maintain social distance in the classroom," she said.
Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, also the general secretary of AL, addressed the programme as chief guest.
On March 17, 2020, the government closed all educational institutions to check the spread of coronavirus. The closure -- recently extended till August 31 -- has led to cancellation of exams and left academic calendars in disarray.
