Govt taking measures to reopen schools, colleges soon: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today told the parliament that the government is taking measures to reopen educational institutes soon.
"We've been able to contain coronavirus to a great extent. There are no issues regarding vaccines. I have already directed to open schools and colleges soon and measures are being taken," Hasina said.
The Leader of the House said this while participating in a discussion on an obituary reference placed in Jatiya Sangsad to condole the demise of Awami League MP Hasibur Rahman Swapon from Sirajganj-6.
Sheikh Hasina, in her speech, said teachers have already been vaccinated. Alongside teachers, steps are being taken to vaccinate other staffers and employees of educational institutes and their family members.
"Sincere there are some WHO guidelines for school students, we're taking measures to vaccinate them following the guidelines," she added.
"The government is procuring some Pfizer vaccines and will bring more. The government is also trying to procure Moderna vaccines. Besides, other vaccines are coming too now," Hasina said.
"We have already paid Tk six crore in advance to procure Covid-19 vaccines," she said.
Sheikh Hasina said, even after vaccination, many are testing positive for Covid-19. She urged everyone to be more aware and called upon all to follow health guidelines.
She said the rate of Covid-19 infection has now gone down. But even then, everyone needs to be careful and follow health safety guidelines.
Hasina said now, dengue outbreak is on the rise. She advised everyone to keep their homes and surroundings clean.
Praying for salvation for the departed soul of Swapon, Hasina said he was a dedicated leader of Awami League and worked with sincerity for the people. His untimely death is a loss for the country, she said.
Apart from Awami League, several MPs from BNP and Jatiya Party also participated in the mourning motion.
At the end of the discussion, the condolence motion was unanimously adopted in Parliament.
