A couple who returned from the UK was sent to the Coronavirus Isolation Centre at Sylhet Saheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital from Sylhet Osmani International Airport this morning.

The elderly couple landed at the airport on a flight from London around 11:00am along with 29 other passengers.

Dr Debapada Ray, director of health in Sylhet division, said, "When they landed at the airport, they went through the thermal scanner and the duty doctors found their body temperature to be above normal."

"They were sent to the isolation centre immediately via ambulance and kept in close observation," he said.

The man was later placed in isolation at the hospital and his wife has been advised to stay in home quarantine, Dr Debapada Ray said, adding that the man will be tested for the virus by the IEDCR.

He said that other passengers of the flight were also requested to stay in home quarantine.

According to the Health Department in Sylhet, 137 persons were put under home or institutional quarantine at four districts in Sylhet division and 200 people were released from home quarantine after completing their 14-day term.

So far, 1,597 persons -- mostly expatriates and their family members and relatives -- are in home or institutional quarantine.
