Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company xAI is hiring specialised writers to refine the outputs of its chatbot, Grok, in a role paying up to $125 per hour.

According to a detailed job posting on the company's official website, xAI is seeking 'Writing Specialists' to evaluate, label, and improve AI-generated text. The role requires using proprietary software to annotate text for clarity, structure, and engagement. The stated responsibility of the position is to "deliver high-quality curated data to improve Grok's writing outputs" and to advance the AI's proficiency.

Applicants must qualify for one of several elite 'Writing Speciality' areas, with each field demanding verifiable, high-level professional achievements. The posting states that unverifiable or NDA-covered claims will result in automatic rejection and a permanent bar from applying to xAI.

The specific qualifications are stringent. For example, a candidate in 'Creative Fiction Writing' must have at least two credentials from a list that includes verified publishing deals with major houses or novel sales exceeding 50,000 units. A 'Game Writing' applicant must have five years of experience and a public portfolio showcasing branching narratives.

Other speciality areas include Technical Writing, Legal Writing, Medical Writing, and Poetry Writing. The posting specifies that poetry applicants must demonstrate mastery of traditional forms, adding: "If your publication record is primarily free verse, please do not apply."

The compensation is listed as $40 to $125 per hour for US-based candidates, with the rate dependent on the writing speciality, experience, and location. The company notes that it cannot hire in the states of Wyoming or Illinois, does not provide visa sponsorship, and does not offer benefits for this part-time role.
