74 lakh SIMs left Dhaka in Eid holidays; mostly GP users
During the Eid holiday, encompassing the preceding two days, a staggering 7,445,523 individuals departed Dhaka in a span of three days. During this migration, 267,036 SIM users entered the city during the same timeframe.
Post and Telecommunication Minister, Mustafa Jabbar, verified the figures through a post on his Facebook page at 4:50 pm on Friday, 30th June. He revealed that 2,398,500 SIM users bid farewell to the capital on the day of Eid, while 556,281 new SIM users entered Dhaka. Among the city's residents, the largest number of SIM holders belonged to Grameenphone, with 1,672,189 users, followed by Robi with 203,616, Banglalink with 1,104,870, and Teletalk with 47,338.
In an earlier statement, the Minister disclosed that a total of 550,000 mobile SIM users had departed Dhaka in the last two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, during the Eid holiday. On 28th June, a staggering 3,141,000 SIM users left Dhaka, followed by 1,905,000 on the previous day, 27th June.
Furthermore, on 28th June, 1,762,607 rural phone users bid adieu to Dhaka for the Eid holiday. Additionally, 455,478 Robi SIMs, 355,439 Banglalink SIMs, and 91,117 Teletalk SIMs ventured beyond the confines of the capital.
On 27th June, the day prior, a total of 905,593 SIM users left the city, with Robi accounting for the highest number of users at 955,756. Grameenphone trailed behind with 230,886 users, while Banglalink saw 610,641 users and Teletalk had 108,310 users embarking on their journeys outside Dhaka.
These numbers do not necessarily correspond to unique individuals, as one person may possess multiple SIMs. Additionally, a considerable number of individuals, including children, have left Dhaka without utilising any mobile SIM, rendering them unaccounted for in the SIM registration records.
