A South Korean appeals court suspends a jail sentence handed down to Samsung Group heir Jay Y. Lee, setting him free after a year's detention amid a corruption scandal that brought down the former president.

The heir to the Samsung business empire, which includes the world's biggest smartphone maker, is sentenced to five years in prison for bribery and other offences in connection with the scandal that brought down South Korean president Park Geun-Hye.
