Woman, her granddaughter die in Gaibandha road accident

A woman and her granddaughter died as a bus ran over them in Gaibandha's Sadar upazila today.

The accident happened on Palashbari-Gaibandha road in Tulsighat area around 6:00am, said Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Officer-in-charge Machhudar Rahman.

The deceased were identified as Sabina Begum, 45, and her five-year-old granddaughter Tia Moni.

The witnesses said Sabina works at a hotel in Tulsighat. In the morning, she along with her granddaughter came to the hotel. At a time, Tia started to run from one side to the other side of the road to buy pitha in a shop.

Seeing a bus coming speedily on the road, Sabina also ran to save her granddaughter. They both died on the spot. However, the bus left the scene, the witnesses added.

The bodies were handed over to their family members. "We haven't identified the bus yet. If anyone complains on behalf of the family, we will take legal action," he said.
