At least 12 people, including a child, died and eight others were injured in lightning strikes during thunderstorms yesterday across seven districts -- Gaibandha, Bogura, Natore, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Jamalpur, and Sirajganj.

The government provides financial assistance worth Tk 10.70 lakh to the families of 81 victims who died by lightning strikes during recent storms in 26 districts.

At least 80 people have been killed so far by lightning this year, according to the department of disaster management.
