Telecom companies say nationwide connectivity is under pressure as outages hit towers and data infrastructure

Bangladesh’s mobile operators have warned of an imminent nationwide telecom disruption as a deepening electricity and fuel crisis pushes networks to the brink, raising serious concerns over the vulnerability of data centres and the wider digital economy.

The Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) today urged the government to ensure uninterrupted power in several areas in the southern part of the country for the sake of continuing telecommunication.

Over 6,500 mobile network towers went offline across Bangladesh after yesterday’s nor’wester that wreaked havoc in Dhaka, insiders say.

The law enforcement agencies suggests the Election Commission to bring down the mobile internet speed to 2G level on the voting day on December 30.
