Jessie Buckley won her first Academy Award on Sunday, claiming the best actress ​trophy for her portrayal of playwright William Shakespeare's ‌wife in "Hamnet".

“Hamnet,” led by Paul Mescal as William Shakespeare and Jessie Buckley as Agnes Shakespeare, has already garnered an emotional reception at both TIFF and the Telluride Film Festival. Adapted from Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel, the story imagines how the grief over their son Hamnet’s death may have inspired Shakespeare’s masterpiece “Hamlet.”

In a major casting announcement, Paul Mescal has been confirmed to portray the legendary playwright William Shakespeare in Chloé Zhao's upcoming film, "Hamnet", based on Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel of the same name.
