Of Fluttering Butterflies

Text and Potos: PRABIR DAS

Vibrant butterflies hovering over flowers and bushes, and dancing in the air may be one of the best scenes to witness. Apart from their mind-blowing beauty, the insects also contribute to the ecology by helping pollination of plants. Now-a-days a flying butterfly has become a very rare scene in the cities due to unplanned urbanisation. However in Chittagong city, there is a park where several hundred butterflies of 11 different species could be found. Situated in a land that measures over 6 acres. This Butterfly Park, near the Shah Amanat International Airport in Patenga, was opened in 2012 and now gets several hundred visitors daily. Visitors believe if such park could be set up in a larger area it could help preservation of butterflies, as well as be an entertainment facility for visitors.
