Kohli, Rahul, SKY shine as India set Tigers a daunting target
Fifties from opener KL Rahul and Virat Kohli and a cameo from Suryakumar Yadav, known as SKY for his initials, helped India post a big total in their T20 World Cup Super 12 fixture against Bangladesh at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.
Bangladesh went with four seamers on the day but other than Taskin Ahmed, no other pacer could really impress and take advantage of the overcast conditions as India posted 184 for six.
Bangladesh had started brilliantly, with Hasan Mahmud compensating for dropping India skipper Rohit Sharma with the batter's wicket and India managing only 37 for one in the Powerplay.
But India turned things around quickly as under-fire batter Rahul hit a 32-ball 50, laced with four maximums and three boundaries, and stitched together a brisk 67-run stand off just 37 balls with Kohli.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan accounted for the wicket of Rahul in the 10th over but Suryakumar came in to play another brisk knock, not letting the scoring rate suffer despite the wicket of a set batter.
The Tigers kept things in check for a while after the 16th over but with Kohli staying till the end and Ravichandran Ashwin hitting Hasan Mahmud for a six and boundary to plunder 14 runs in the final over, India managed to post a big total. Kohli remained unbeaten for a 44-ball 64.
For Bangladesh, Taskin bowled superbly, giving away just 15 runs in four overs. However, skipper Shakib might regret using his most in-form bowler at a stretch as that made life easier for Indian batters later in the innings.
