Sri Lanka eye Group-1 summit
Sri Lanka have already booked their spot in the next stage of the T20 World Cup with their second consecutive win in the tournament. They now eye on becoming the group champions as they face the bottom-table Netherlands at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on their third group match today.
The Lankans were strong with both bat and ball despite getting off to a disastrous start against Ireland. However, important individual performances from the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga, Pathum Nissanka and Maheesh Theekshana helped Sri Lanka to secure a comfortable 70-run success.
Netherlands crashed out of the T20 World Cup after they failed to overcome Namibia last time out and only pride is at stake for them in this final match before they exit the tournament.
With the winner of the clash between Namibia and Ireland guaranteed to join Sri Lanka in the Super 12s, the desperation to progress is immense. Ireland have been particularly poor in the shortest format.
However, Namibia have already made history at this tournament. Their victory over Netherlands was their first at a World Cup, and all indications are that they will not be satisfied with that.
