‘I may not return to the squad, but good wishes for you’
Former Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was delighted to see former national team coach Jamie Siddons even though the Australian is associated with the pacer's one of the most painful memories in his cricketing career.
During Siddons' tenure as the head coach of Bangladesh, Mashrafe was left out of the squad for the World Cup in 2011 due to a knee injury. Mashrafe even broke down into tears after being excluded from the squad list.
And even though injury was cited as the main reason behind his exclusion, Mashrafe later claimed that he was fit enough to play.
However, the 38-year-old pacer said he has forgotten all those painful memories.
"I have forgotten all the memories of 2011 by seeing you Jamie," wrote Mashrafe on his official Facebook page with a picture of him greeting the Australian coach from afar.
Siddons, who was the head coach of the Bangladesh national team from 2007-2011, is now back with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in a new role. He is contracted with the board on a two-year deal as its batting consultant.
Siddons, who arrived in the country on February 2, has been visiting venues to observe the games in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League. And Siddons yesterday met Mashrafe at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium as the pacer was there for a training session with his BPL side Minister Group Dhaka.
"I sincerely believe that you are one of the contributors to the development of Bangladesh cricket so far. I may not return to the squad but my good wishes are with you. May your teachings bring newness to Bangladesh cricket. I am saying this with immense confidence in you. Sending love while maintaining social distance. Bangladesh loves you as well," Mashrafe added.
