Golf ball becomes fish food

Charl Schwartzel encountered an unusual hazard during the final round of LIV Golf Bedminster on Sunday when a fish appeared to swallow his golf ball after it rolled into a pond beside the seventh green.

The South African's tee shot at the 134-yard, par-three hole landed on the green before rolling off the putting surface and into the water. TV footage then showed a fish grabbing the ball from beneath the surface and swimming away with it.

Commentators were left stunned by the unusual incident, with one saying: "I have never seen that."

LIV Golf also shared footage of the incident on social media, asking: "Have you ever seen anything like this?"

Schwartzel was forced to take a one-stroke penalty and eventually made bogey on the hole. He finished the tournament two-over par, while Chilean Joaquin Niemann claimed the title.

The incident prompted plenty of amusement among fans on social media, with some joking that golf balls could now be used as bait.
